There’s something so lovely about walking into a home that smells nice. I’m a big fan of home fragrance. My favorite ways to add fragrance to my home are by burning candles or using my diffuser.

The other day I was thinking about additional ways I could add fragrance to my home, which led me to write this article.

I’m sharing 7 things you can do to make your home smell fabulous.

Ways to Make Your Home Smell Fabulous

1. Eliminate Odor Culprits

If you have smelly trash or a dirty litter box stinking up the place, spraying air freshener in your home will only mask the odor. Or worst, you’ll make your home smell like a mixture of garbage and flowers. No thank you.

Here are a few common odor culprits you should consider cleaning up:

  • Trash can
  • Carpet
  • Litter box
  • Drains
  • Refrigerator

2. Open the Windows

Once everything is cleaned up, I recommend opening up your windows. Opening your windows will let out any bad smells, and let fresh in.

3. Make a Stove Simmer

This is probably one of my favorite ways to make my home smell good. I especially love doing this during the holiday season.

In a saucepan, simmer water, citrus slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and vanilla extract. Your home will smell amazing. If you aren’t able to keep an eye on your pot, use a slow cooker to achieve the same results for an extended period.

Gathering Dreams has a great recipe for a three-ingredient stove top potpourri.

4. Add Essential Oils to an Air Filter

I actually learned this nifty technique from Kids Activities. All you do is take your air filter and place a few drops of essential oil directly on the filter. You can add additional drops as needed.

5. Place Coffee Grounds in the Fridge

I’m sure we’ve all heard of placing baking soda in the fridge to neutralize orders. However, did you know that coffee grounds can also be used as a natural deodorizer? The best part is that you can use used coffee grounds for this. Who knew you could actually repurpose used coffee grounds?

6. Make Your Own Potpourri

Placing potpourri in a room is a great way to bring fragrance into your home.

I’m not usually a fan of the potpourri scents I find in stores, which is why I love the idea of making my own. Patti from Hearts and Vine has a fantastic Homemade Potpourri Made With Natural Apples, Oranges and Cinnamon recipe that you have to try.

Also, homemade potpourri makes a great gift, so consider making extra for family and friends.

7. Hang Eucalyptus in the Shower

I absolutely love eucalyptus. It’s one of my favorite aromatherapy scents. Hanging a few branches of eucalyptus in your shower will not only provide you with a relaxing scent, but the steam from the shower will activate other beneficial properties such as relieving inflamed airways and congestion and stimulating your immune system.
